Corey Taylor (Slipknot) on mental illness, speaking out and sobriety

Corey Taylor of Slipknot backstage at Good Things festival.

Corey Taylor opens up on the Occupy The Void with Xtina podcast about how being honest with fans about his struggles with mental illness changed the way he handled those conversations with the people closest to him. His transparency around his bipolar disorder gave many fans the courage to reach out to their own families and friends for help.

He also reflects on overcoming addiction and suicidal thoughts, and what still isn’t being said in the broader conversation around bipolar disorder. The discussion moves into the connection between his state of mind and his lyrics, including what shifted when he began writing for Volume Three, and how he made it through some of his darkest periods.
